The US Army Logistics Innovation Agency (LIA) is a field-operating agency of the Department of the Army, G-4. LIA has a requirement to interface with Joint organizations responsible for policy revisions and to automate to the maximum extent possible this policy monitoring and revision process within the US Army. Expression Networks developed the Enterprise Policy and Process Interactive Capability (EPIC) to meet this requirement.

EPIC is an enterprise policy and process search and categorization tool for Army and Joint DoD policy, doctrine and manuals. The system is built on current web standards, making it available through any web browser. EPIC consumes policy documents in XML, PDF, MS Word and text formats, then chunks the documents and indexes the chunks for searching by end users. Chunks are defined as the smallest unit of policy which forms a complete concept or thought, usually occurring at the paragraph level.

In addition to storing the policy text, EPIC stores metadata including Dublin Core elements for each document. These elements are associated with each chunk, giving users linked information and about the source document. Currently, the system is focused on logistics policy and doctrine, and a taxonomy has been developed to cover these topics.

Expression Networks analyzed existing information retreival resources within the Army in order to improve the interfaces and processes involved in importing content to the system and delivering that content. We provided systems engineering and technical support of the systems and related hardware and software. We developed and implemented test plans to evaluate the object database, conversion tool, taxonomy, and search engine both at Owner and User echelons.

We identified means to ensure that the system could be supported over its lifetime in a cost effective manner, which included a highly modular design and deployment on commodity hardware and software. We also provided Program and Administrative Management throughout to ensure that the task order was effectively and efficiently managed.

Expression Networks is currently engaged in the third phase of EPIC, including deployment to the LPC and integration with NIPRNET and JWICS.

Expression Networks Unveils Next Generation Infrastructure Services

Mclean, Virginia, Dec 20, 2009 — Expression Networks, LLC. today previewed a comprehensive set of new infrastructure services, code-named “Tier Blue”. These new services are designed to speed global growth and the transition of software companies into application service providers.

“For companies to continue to flourish on the Internet, the process of adding new services and global growth needs to be dramatically simplified,” said Abir Ray, Director of Business Development for Expression Networks. “Tier Blue reflects the evolution and learning from working with our customers. This helps our next generation of services continue to evolve to meet customer needs.” Tier Blue is designed to accelerate and simplify the global expansion of a business’ Internet efforts.

Tier Blue will include global load balancing, which means Internet traffic will automatically be distributed to the customer site geographically closest to its end users. Tier Blue also includes global disaster recovery. Through the use of Expression Networks’s automation technology, Expression Networks will be able to fail a customer’s Internet operations over from its presence in a Silicon Valley data center to a data center on the East Coast or in the United Kingdom in the event of a natural or technical disaster.

To support the growing number of ASPs as customers, Expression Networks also announced services for ASPs, a new set of infrastructure services designed specifically for ASPs. Included in these services are ASP operational services, a set of new services that includes the application functionality an ASP needs — configuration, management, billing, customer monitoring, and log management — in order to offer a software application as an Internet-based service. A new scaling technology called Rapid restore lets Expression Networks instantaneously tap into a pool of stand-by servers to replace a failed machine in a live environment. The technology helps ASP customers to offer high-availability solutions without incurring the costs of full redundancy at each tier.

Expression Networks’s new services are based on the knowledge that Expression Networks has gathered in working with a number of high growth ASPs. – Tier Blue services are scheduled to debut in the market throughout Q2 2010.

Expression Networks Announces Support for the Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement Integrated Solutions

Mclean, Virginia, Mar 18, 2009 — Expression Networks today announced that its e-commerce solutions interoperate with the Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement, offering customers the ability to easily connect suppliers to enterprises and e-marketplaces. This interoperability uses a solution, EN Gateway for Microsoft BizTalk Framework, announced earlier this year by Expression Networks.

More than 600 Expression Networks enterprise and marketplace customers can connect to suppliers using the Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement through the Expression Networks Gateway for BizTalk Framework. Expression Networks Collaborative Procurement and other applications also interoperate with the solution to further simplify deployment and enhance the value of e-commerce.

UTS, a networking solutions supplier, is using Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement and Expression Networks solutions to conduct online transactions.

“The Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement provides us with a competitive advantage, allowing us to easily integrate with the Expression Networks solutions increasingly used by our large customers,” said Josh Sabernosh, president and CEO, UTS. “As a small business, this makes us more attractive to our customers and opens the door to new revenue streams. We are forecasting a 15 percent revenue increase in the near future, as well as an 80 percent reduction in the expenses associated with online transactions. The Microsoft and Expression Networks solutions have also provided UTS with features and functionality that were previously available only from costly custom implementations. Now we can internally manage many of the content and catalog tasks that we had to outsource in the past.”

“The Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement is designed so customers can quickly and efficiently implement supplier solutions that address their specific business needs and helps them to reduce costs and increase revenues,” said Larry Atkinson, Director of Corporate Development at Expression. “We are pleased that the Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement will be available to a broader set of enterprise customers through our relationship with UTS.”

“Expression Networks solutions, combined with the Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement, help to make it easier for suppliers to get online and transacting, addressing one of the pain points of e-commerce adoption,” said Darton Williams, Director of Application Development at Expression Networks.

Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement The Microsoft Solution for Supplier Enablement provides an extensible software solution that allows suppliers to sell effectively through multiple online channels while remaining empowered. Microsoft’s solution automates the selling processes to increase revenue, lower costs, and achieve new levels of business agility while maintaining the suppliers’ business differentiation.
